Dufton Pike in the Evening Sun

in Cumbria, Eden Valley

Just outside the Lake District, the Eden Valley stretches eastwards up into the North Pennines. Along its northern edge, between Penrith and Appleby, is a series of conical hills. Last week I mentioned and posted a photo of one of these, Dufton Pike. Then yesterday whilst visiting some friends in Brampton, near Appleby, after church evening service we found ourselves in their garden faced by this magnificent view of Dufton Pike and the hills beyond.

I did not have a camera with me so this is a shot from my phone. The evening sun gives colours, light and shade to be seen at no other time of day. This part of Cumbria is truly beautiful.
